Marco Silva says Joao Palhinha will need the support of the Fulham fans after the Portuguese midfielder missed out on a move to Bayern Munich yesterday.
The Fulham head coach revealed that the former Sporting Lisbon man was not in the right frame of mind to play at the Etihad this afternoon having completed a medical in Munich and filmed his announcement video at Bayern Munich’s stadium – only for the transfer to fall through.
Silva told his post-match press conference after Fulham’s defeat at Manchester City this afternoon:
“It was a tough day for him, definitely, probably one of the toughest days of his life. He loves Fulham, he loves football, he loves to be with us. He had the fantastic season last season and he’s always a player that gives 100 per cent for the shirt but he had a big chance to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world and he was really close.
You can imagine the impact that has on a football player when these type of things happen. He is going to need support from all of us – the coaching staff, our fans and his team-mates.”

Agreed. The entire issue was that the approach by Bayern started so late into the window period we couldn’t find a replacement. If JP gives 100% on the pitch then I will support him. So, I will sing his song and the rest will be down to him. I trust Marco to get the best from JP.

Bayern should have made their increased offer sooner, thereby giving all parties additional time to work it through properly. It is a shame that Al Fayed sold the Club to Daddy Khan, but his boy wanted a play toy, through a tantrum, so Daddy gave in.,
I agree with Victor Khans out, the sooner they go the better, we are lucky to have Silver now,. Will he stay next year I doubt it

He signed a long contract with us and after 1 year he wanted to move to Germany and the Khan’s were going to let him, but because they waited till the last day of the transfer window they had no replacement,they wasted so much time that Marco didn’t get half the players he wanted, they had the whole of the transfer window to bring in a replacement for Mitro and we didn’t get one, they wasted all of the window talking about signing Hudson Odoi and Forest signed him for 5 m with a possibility 3m add ons and The Khan’s wouldn’t pay that much, we have to get rid of our recruitment team before the January window because they always leave things too late.
Let’s not be silly. We lost Mitrovic, a huge blow. Then Bayern come with a good offer at the last minute, everyone at the club wanted to keep hold of Pahlinha, including the Khans, but Silva is a man of honour and told his compatriot that this was the chance of a lifetime. Bayern Munich not bloody West Ham. If Pahalinha left without a suitable replacement we would be heading back to the championship, so he had to be called back. Who’s fault is it? No one’s really, Pahlinha has a 4 year contract and should respect it and also his employers. I for one am over the moon that he is staying. Let’s stop this nonsense of Kahns out, we must only thank heavens we have them as our custodians.
Agree with Simon. The Khans brought in Palhinha in the first place, but every player has his price. In this case, as opposed to Mitro’s leaving for a mickey mouse league, I can understand him wanting to play for a Champion’s League outfit. However, he’s got 2 weeks to get over it and I’m sure he will put 100% into Fulham now. Once the new additions bed in and understand Marco’s vision, we will have as a good a season as last, or better. But, this recruitment business has to change: everything seems to be last minute and focussed on players who have ‘something to prove’! If we’d shelled out some Mitro money on Solanki we’d be in a brilliant position now and probably ensured Bournemouth’s relegation!
And one more thing, and i promise to stop with this argument. We must be honest, Fulham are still a small club, many players simply refuse to join us, even if we meet their asking price. So it’s not always the case of going for cut price targets. Hojberg is a case in point, I also think that Hudson-Odoi also preferred joining Not Forest, why? Because Forest have a much bigger footballing history. It is not always that simple to sign players, especially those from bigger clubs. I keep telling myself that when Pahlinha will get over his lost transfer, i believe we will be better than last season. Top gk, great options on both full backs, reinforced defence with Bassey and kept Tosin, good midfield with the addition of 2 quality wingers. Maybe we could have added a top striker, but everyone knows none are available. Jimenez might score as much as Mitro scored last season, its still early days. Next match at home against Luton hopefully will prove me right
I don’t agree with the we have to support Palhina he signed a long contract with us and after 1year he wants to quit so I would rather one of our young players to be given a chance than letting Palhina back in to our team,why should we give him game time when all he wants is to quit , so let him train alone until he leaves we owe him nothing.
Unless we want to go back to Championships, we have absolutely no choice but to give Palhinha game time, John. There is simply no backup in this position. It’s a rare thing to buy one player, that makes everbody better and that is what Palhinha does. I am sure he’ll be gone in the next window so I hope recruitment is making a looooong list of alternatives. Maybe we have to look abroad again. Scandinavia could be a good place.
