Bayern Munich are preparing a late raid for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to reports in Germany.
Bild says that Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel wants the Portuguese international to become his new number six and that the German champions have already made an enquiry about the 28 year-old’s availability. Having lost Aleksandar Mitrovic already in this window, Fulham will resist any attempts to prise Palhinha, who returned to Marco Silva’s starting line up with a dramatic equaliser at Arsenal on Saturday, away from Craven Cottage.
Reports earlier in the summer suggested that Fulham had put a price tag of around £60m on the former Sporting midfielder to end interest from West Ham United. Palhinha topped the Premier League in terms of number of tackles (147) during his impressive first campaign in English football, when the newly-promoted Whites finished ninth in the table.
Palhinha, who scored a penalty in last night’s League Cup shoot-out win over Tottenham, is under contract in SW6 for another four years.
Just the same as Liverpool trying to poach our players how are these big clubs able to do this
Money, Keith. It’s all about the money.
keith is this your first time watching football? Clubs have always signed players…. I’m not sure why you’re so exasperated/surprised?! Fulham did well last year, so it stands to reason that our players would get interest from bigger clubs
No Palhinha = No Premier League. It would be a joke to let him go this close to deadline if we don’t have a 1:1 alternative.
Revenue from staying in the premier league is around 150 million a year.
When big clubs came for Declan Rice and Wilfried Zaha in previous years, managers laughed them off with 150 million pound price tags. We should do the same.
I thought Fulham’s price was supposed to be £90 million? It certainly shouldn’t be any less.
It should be easy to price virtually any club out of a move for Joao. Use Rice as the benchmark for that position, point to how Joao outplayed him at Arsenal on Saturday, and equate the two. Joao is the better player, but he’s a bit older, so £80-90m is fair. He’s also on a four-year contract, so they’ve got to buy that out.
He certainly doesn’t look or play like someone who wants to leave, so we’ve got that on our side too.
If the owner and his son really want Fulham to be playing in the Premier League, he must keep Pahlinha. Offer him a new contract, with better wages but Pahlinha is Fulham’s future. Simply put, if Pahlinha leaves, we are going to be relegated. No ifs or buts, it’s the simple truth
We must keep Joao at all costs and we have to be aiming for European football if we are to keep our best players.
Yeah I been watching football for almost 60 years but reading the other comments it echoes what I mean if we have to progress we have to keep Palinha and others my meaning is oh yeah we’re a big club so there’s nothing you can do about it attitude I have supported Fulham for 60 years of my life this could be a special time for this club so we must keep players of Palinha calibre
