Marco Silva may yet count the cost of Fulham’s penalty shoot-out win over Tottenham in the League Cup last night after Harrison Reed and Tom Cairney were substituted with injury concerns.

Captain Cairney produced a mesmerising moment of skill to create the Fulham goal along the left flank, beating Davinson Sanchez and Emerson Royal before Micky van de ven turned the Scottish international’s cross into his own net under pressure from Reed at the near post. But the classy playmaker was targeted by a number of crude challenges throughout the evening and was eventually forced off with seven minutes to go.

Reed had been replaced by talented teenager Luke Harris a little earlier and Silva told FFCTV after the final whistle that both players will need to be assessed by Fulham’s medical team today ahead of Saturday’s trip to champions Manchester City.

“Unfortunately from the game, the only thing [is that] we probably got two injuries from the game [to] Harrison Reed and TC. Let’s see what’s going to happen. It’s not good for us when you have a squad [that is] so short in numbers.”
