Experienced goalkeeper Tony Lange joined Fulham in the summer of 1995 from West Bromwich Albion. Nicknamed Freddie because his apparent resemblance to Freddie Mercury, the custodian had a serious Football League pedigree having won back-to-back player of the year awards at Aldershot Town whilst earning promotion to the Third Division in 1986-87 and winning the Second Division play-offs with West Bromwich Albion in 1992-93. Lange’s finest moment in a Fulham shirt was probably netting the winning penalty in an FA Cup replay at Brighton and Hove Albion in December 1995 having already saved two Seagulls spot-kicks. He lost his place to Mark Walton during the 1996/97 promotion-winning season but made twenty appearances for Micky Adams’ side before leaving the club at the end of the season aged 33. He briefly appeared for non-league St. Leonard’s Stamcroft the following year.
