Fulham have made a £15m bid for Ajax’s Nigerian centre back Calvin Bassey, according to The Athletic this morning.
The former Rangers defender made 39 appearances in his first season for the Dutch giants after making a £20m move from Rangers. The Italian-born centre back, who initially came through the Leicester City youth set-up, has four years to run on his current contract but is believed to be available this summer. Reports in the Dutch press earlier this week suggested Ajax would looking for an offer of around £20m to green light a sale. They have yet to respond to Fulham’s formal offer.
Bassey, now 23, is the latest target as the Whites seek to strengthen their central defensive options ahead of the new Premier League campaign. He made 65 appearances in two seasons in Glasgow, helping Rangers win the Scottish double and reach the Europa League final, having left Leicester on a free transfer. The Italian-born powerful defender can also operate at left back and is believed to interested in a return to England.
Bassey has won ten senior international caps for Nigeria, having elected to represent the Super Eagles over Italy and England. He made his international debut in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana last year.
I doubt it as all we seem to be doing is offering a low price on every single player who is up for sale.
Don’t think we’re unique in doing that. Look at the initial offers made for Joao and Mitro.
