Fulham vice chairman and director of football Tony Khan took a swipe at Saudi Arabia’s human rights record whilst reiterating that the club have no intention of selling striker Aleksandar Mitrovic during an appearance on the Dan Batard Show last night.
Asked about how the Saudi state is moving into football with serious cash following their entrance in golf, Khan appeared to reference the murder of journalist Jamal Khasshoggi:
“It is amazing. I think if you have enough money you get away with anything, including murder, and you know, try to sign up all the top players in the world. Certainly, they have approached a lot of great players and I’m very, very interested to see where this goes. But, for us, we’re definitely committed to keeping our top stars and doing what it will take. We’ve got a great, great, great team. We had a great season: it was one of the best seasons in the history of Fulham, and I’m really excited about this coming season.”
Fulham have rejected two bids for their talismanic Serbian striker from Al-Hilal and insist that Mitrovic, who has scored 111 goals in 204 games for the Whites, is not for sale.
Be nice to imagine Mitro shares his sentiments but it’s amazing how the prospect of £30m a year can blur your vision. Let’s hope Jordan Henderson has the courage of his convictions too.
Tony will have a fatwa out on him lol
