Fulham might have been feeling the after-effects of their vigorous Division Title celebrations having beaten Millwall on Wednesday night but Wrexham emerged with real credit after claiming a creditable point at Craven Cottage this afternoon.
The visitors were rewarded for an adventurous game plan as they took the lead on eighteen minutes. A boisterous home crowd that came expecting a procession as Kevin Keegan’s side seek to rewrite the record books by breaking the hundred point barrier were stunned into silence when Rufus Brevett brought down Martin Chalk to concede a penalty, which Karl Connolly confidently converted.
Paul Peschisolido did level for the Londoners with a flicked header two minutes before the break after Geoff Horsfield had made a nuisance of himself in the penalty area. Fulham had by far the better of the second period but couldn’t find a winner. Wrexham assistant boss Kevin Reeves admitted afterwards: “It was a big point for us today. The lads battled really well. It’s never easy to get anything at Craven Cottage – they are the best side in the League.”
