Kevin Keegan warned his table-topping Fulham side not to take promotion for granted after the Whites were held to a 1-1 draw by AFC Bournemouth at Dean Court this evening.
Despite dropping points to the Cherries, Fulham increased their lead over the Second Division’s chasing pack to four points but Keegan was not in the mood to overlook a below-par performance from his players. The part-time Fulham boss told the press after the final whistle:
“We’ve still got a third of the season to go and that does worry me because we’ve got so many games in such a short space of time. Our cup run has done that for us so there’s no point in complaining. Bournemouth are in the promotion shake-up and will be as determined to go up as we are.”
The Cherries showed their promotion credentials with a creditable display that prevented the Londoners from building on Kit Symons’ opener just after the hour, when the Welsh centre back turned home a cross from his international colleague Paul Trollope. The hosts deservedly levelled eighteen minutes from time when Trollope went from hero to villain, turning a free-kick from Jamie Vincent past his own goalkeeper Maik Taylor.
