Fulham have announced the signing of teenage midfielder Chris Donnell from Perth Glory after a successful trial.
The Australian under-20 international, who grew up in Glasgow, progressed from the Glory academy into the first team, making his debut against Melbourne Victory in the Australian Cup in November 2001. Donnell, a talented and tenacious central midfielder, has also made eight appearances for Australia at under-20 level and made three A-League appearances for the Glory.
Donnell, who will initially join Fulham’s under-21 side, told the club’s official website:
“I’m buzzing. Ever since I got told that there was potential for me to come here I’ve been really excited and now that it’s finalised I can’t wait to get going. When I was here on trial everyone was really nice and made me feel welcome. That’s made it so easy since coming back again to get on with the boys and staff and focus on my football.
I leave everything on the pitch and try and play with as much passion as I can. I’d like to think I have a lot of energy as a player. My main aim is to try and get into that Under-21 team as much as I can. Hopefully I can get to a point where I’m playing week in week out and then I’ll be able to build from there.”
Fulham academy director Sean Cullen said:
“Chris is a youth international who joins us after a successful trial last season. Chris is a hard working and determined player, who also has good technical abilities that we believe will compliment our under-21 squad well next season.”
