Fulham were furious at the officials after were held to a draw at Oldham Athletic this afternoon by what they believed to be an offside equaliser.
Kevin Keegan’s side, leading through a header from Paul Moody five minutes after the break, were pegged back by a leveller from Oldham midfielder Mark Allott on the hour mark. But the visitors were incandescent with rage after Allott appeared to be yards offside when he chased a forward header from Lee Duxbury. Simon Morgan led instant Fulham protests but referee Simon Baines allowed the goal to stand and the Cottagers had to settle for a point having seen their 100 per cent start to the season end against Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Cottagers had dominated the first half but failed to find the finishing touch to make their attractive approach play. Peter Beardsley had shot wide on two occasions when well place, whilst Steve Hayward whistled a drive just over the crossbar from long range. Keegan’s men went ahead just after the break when John Salako teased Paul Rickers along the left wing before whipping over an inviting cross that Moody met emphatically with a trademark header.
