Dutch wing-back Gus Uhlenbeek became a cult hero at Craven Cottage for his willing running along the right flank. Uhlenbeek was rapid in terms of pace if a little inconsistent with his crossing. He made 32 appearances as the Whites won the Second Division by fourteen points in 1999, but struggled to make much of an impression in the first-team after losing his place because of the consistency of his main competitor at right back Steve Finnan.
