Fulham have made contact with Porto midfielder Mateus Uribe over a potential free transfer this summer, according to reports in the Portuguese press.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims that the Whites are leading the race to sign the 32 year-old, who is believed to be ready to leave the Dragons this summer, but discloses that he has rejected substantial interest from Marseille. Fulham, alongside Atletico Madrid, are apparently ‘at the top of his preferences’ with informal discussions having already taken place between the Cottagers and representatives of the player.
The Colombian international is thought to be keen on remaining in Europe after a successful spell with Porto, which saw the defensive midfielder win back-to-back domestic doubles, and intrigued by the prospect of playing in the Premier League. Fulham face competition from a number of other suitors including sides in Italy, Brazil and across the Middle East for a player who has long featured on their list of transfer targets.
Whilst I’m sure Marco has a hand in this move it would be good if we could identify some under 25 talent!
Probably means that Joao Palhinha will be sold.
I bloody well hope we aren’t going to sell Palhina we should be building a team around him not letting him leave after only one season, and Uribe is 32 years old and not a good replacement for Palhina, come on where’s our ambition if we want to keep improving we must keep our best players or what’s the point .
