Luke Harris has signed a three year-long contract extension at Fulham, the club have announced this afternoon.
The attacking midfielder, who was called up to Rob Page’s squad for the start of Wales’ European Championship qualifying campaign today, has now cemented his future at Craven Cottage until 2026. The 18 year-old, who has made six appearances for Marco Silva’s first team squad, had been tracked by a number of England and Europe’s top sides have starred since joining Fulham’s academy from Jersey.
Harris told the club’s official website:
“I’m really happy with all of it. I’ve been here for a very long time now, so I’m pleased I’ll be staying for even longer. Ever since I arrived here, I’ve settled in really well which was really important as I moved here on my own at the age of 13. At first it was difficult, but looking back now I can see that it was all worth it. It feels like home here and I’m loving my journey at Fulham. I’d like to thank my mum and dad who have sacrificed a lot for me, often coming over on weekends with my brothers to watch me play. I couldn’t have done this without all of them.”
The playmaker, one of the latest players to roll off the Motspur Park conveyor belt, has already enjoyed a stellar year and has plenty of highlights to pick from.
My debut was really special, but starting in the FA Cup against Sunderland is the memory that I would say stands out the most. It was a brilliant experience because the FA Cup is so historic, and to be a part of it and help us progress was a great feeling.”
Fulham’s head of football development, Huw Jennings, added:
“We’re absolutely delighted, and what’s really important is that Luke has already been here a long time and he’s showing commitment to want to be at Fulham.
It’s not about age, it’s about your ability to demonstrate how you grow and progress. One of the key elements to my role is to see players transitioning from the academy towards the first team. Luke’s getting a really high-class apprenticeship working with Marco every day, whilst getting his games through Steve Wigley and the under-21s.
Hopefully, as he has demonstrated through his long-term commitment, we’re going to see him grow to become a considerable asset for Fulham in the future.”
