Huddersfield Town are hoping to end Anthony Knockaert’s nightmare stint in Greece by signing the Fulham winger on loan themselves, according to Football Insider.
The Championship side, now managed by former Fulham midfielder Mark Fotheringham, are in discussions with Fulham about striking a deal that would see the French winger cut short his current loan with Volos and spent the remainder of the season with the Terriers instead. The 31 year-old has made just nine appearances for Volos, scoring a single goal, and was left out of the squad entirely for yesterday’s home defeat by Olympiacos.
Knockaert’s Craven Cottage career has been a massive disappointment. The former Leicester City and Brighton winger helped both of those sides win promotion from the Championship, but he has struggled to recapture that form with the Whites – scoring four goals in 56 appearances. A clause in his loan deal from the Seagulls saw his move to London made permanent at a cost of £15m but he barely featured in the top flight and made just seven appearances for Marco Silva last term.
Fotheringham views Knockaert’s experience and creativity as vital in helping Huddersfield avoid relegation to League One and, with Knockaert’s Fulham contract set to expire in the summer, he would be available on a free transfer should the proposed loan be successful.
Let’s get rid of this waste of space,Brighton must have been rubbing their hands when fulham coughed up 15 million for him, let’s just draw a line under it and thank our lucky stars we didn’t sign Maupay as he is just as bad,15 million for him? What a waste
