Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha has been nominated for the Premier League’s player of the month award.

The Portuguese midfielder impressed before the World Cup break with two excellent displays against Manchester City and Manchester United, before displaying all of his usual combative qualities in the Boxing Day win at Crystal Palace. Palhina then headed in the winner against Southampton and played a key role as the Whites made it three wins in a row at Leicester City earlier this week.

Palhinha, comfortably the league’s leading tackler, is up Manchester United duo of Caesmiro and Marcus Rashford, the Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, the Brentford centre back Ben Mee, Arsenal pair Martin Ødegaard and Bukayo Saka, and Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier.
