Signed on a free transfer in August 2021 as a cover after Fulham suffered a series of midfield injuries, Nathaniel Chalobah has so far struggled to recreate the form he showed under Marco Silva at Watford that culminated in the defensive midfielder earning a full England cap. Chalobah made a strong start with a commanding debut at Birmingham City but failed to seriously challenge Harrison Reed and Jean Michael Seri for a starting spot as the Whites won the Championship title and blotted his copybook on his only top flight start for the club, before sent off after seven minutes in a home defeat by Newcastle.
