One of the most talented teenagers to emerge from the Fulham academy, midfielder Matt O’Riley was incredibly unlucky with injuries as well as first-team opportunities during his time at Craven Cottage. A tall figure at the heart of the engine room, O’Riley had an eye for a pass and the ability to dictate play that impressed Slavisa Jokanovic. Youth team supremo Steve Wigley reckoned Fulham had a Champions’ League player on their hands, but Scott Parker disagreed – memorably hauling O’Riley off before the end of his only league appearance during Parker’s time in charge – and the gifted ballplayer turned down a new contract in June 2020. He has since gone on to star north of the border at Celtic.
