Goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli progressed through Fulham’s academy to make more than a century of first-team appearances and help the Whites win two promotions from the Championship. The son of youth goalkeeping coach Vic, Bettinelli made his debut in the League Cup at Brentford, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 win. He made 45 appearances in his first season as number one but had to win his place back from David Button under Slavisa Jokanovic. After being recalled to the starting line-up, Bettinelli was in goal for Fulham’s 23-match unbeaten run that took them to the play-off final at Wembley.
Bettinelli kept a clean sheet as the Whites beat Aston Villa to return to the Premier League despite having been reduced to ten men. He was called up to the England squad twice and saved a penalty at Brighton and Hove Albion before losing his place to new signing Sergio Rico. Bettinelli started as Scott Parker’s number one but was quickly displaced by Marek Rodak and left the club following Fulham’s relegation in June 2021.
