Utility man Martin Djetou was a popular member of the Fulham squad that overachieved in Chris Coleman’s first two seasons in management. He arrived on loan from Parma after a contract dispute with the Italian outfit, who were plunged into financial strife, and the legacy of that frustrated Fulham’s attempts to secure a permanent transfer. The French international, who won six senior caps between 1996 and 2000, lifted the Ligue 1 title twice during his time with Monaco.
Djetou overcame a dreadful start to the 2003/04 campaign when he gifted Middlesbrough the opening goal within the first fifteen minutes and was a dependable member of the side whether he was deployed in central defensive or as a defensive midfielder. His physical attributes and tenacity into the tackle made him ideal for the hustle and bustle of English football and Djetou scored the only goal of the game in a 2002 win over Leeds United.
