Two things arise from this old video advertising the brilliant Brian McBride’s return to the Cottage on Saturday:
1) Why isn’t this stunning goal in there? For sheer surprise value and the fact that it knocked the stuffing out of West Ham in an FA Cup tie I just wasn’t confident about, it should be. Plus it was one of hell of a finish.
2) Apparently, our talismanic former skipper won’t be paraded on the pitch or do the half-time draw but simply talk to those supporters able to pay £30 for his post-match appearance. If true, that would be very disappointing, and a real missed opportunity for the American to receive the ovation he never real got when he left Fulham.
“In his first appearance back at the Cottage since he bid farewell to Fulham at the end of the 2007/08 season, the all-American hero who made over 150 appearances for the Whites will greet supporters on the pitch at half time. He will also also be joining us for a very special ‘Evening with McBride’ in McBride’s after the final whistle. ”
He will be on at half-time. Unfortunately not as a sub!
