Fulham are interested in signing Tottenham’s Welsh international defender Joe Rodon – and Spurs are willing to let their ball-playing defender leave to play first-team football, according to an Athletic report this morning.
The 24 year-old has failed to establish himself in north London since his £11m move from Swansea in October 2020 and made just three league appearances for Antonio Conte last season. The Italian remains a huge admirer of the central defender, who was outstanding as Wales qualified for their first World Cup finals since 1958 earlier this year, but recognises that Rodon needs regular football both in order to remain in Rob Page’s international line up and to avoid career stagnation.
The 6ft 4 in centre half is under contract until 2025 and has attracted interest from Italy, but exploratory talks between Tottenham and Sampdoria have yet to prompt an offer from the Serie A side. Rodon is understood to prefer to remain both in London and the Premier League and Spurs are open to an initial season-long loan deal. Marco Silva is desperate to bring in centre halves to compete with Tosin Adarabioyo and Tim Ream this term – and Rodon, a tall, quick, aerially strong defender with the ability to play off either foot – would fit the Fulham head coach’s bill.
This is definitely one to pursue either signing permantly or on loan. Reinforcement at Central Defence is becoming desperate ready for our first match
PLEASE recruit 2 CBS!!!
Young with potential for sure. Not expensive. Definite resale value. Done. Sign him. Tick. Now move quickly and get the Next deals over the line…..
OR Faff about for weeks arguing over small details, work out in 4 weeks time that you can’t agree the fee and leave the team with no time to integrate players before the league starts and woefully short of depth to compete and cover injuries. I wonder which option we’ll choose?
It’s a no-brainer. So even a director of football without a football brain ought to be able to see it. But, then again, we heard he was likely to be available earlier in the window …. but nothing then ….
If TK is involved in this we will sign him next season and then he won’t be available as a previous comment stated because TK will find a way of stalling enough said, this is a no brainer a very good player let’s hope someone other than TK can do this and a loan deal or permanent can be done like very very quickly
We could have got Joe Rondon over a month ago, so I am not hopeful now to sign him in time for the start of the season . if it happens it will be the last day of the transfer window. Signing him is a no brainer. If we stick with our current defence for the Liverpool match is like leaving the door open and I can see us conceding 5 or 6 goals.we might score one
The perfect situation… get Diop under those 20M, and Rodon on loan with an option to buy after this season, and you get the 2 CB that team desesperately need!
Add Leno and you have a serious squad to start the PL.
Make it happen FFC!
I really want this to be true but I also really don’t want it to be another loan situation, like Andersen where we showcased him in the league and he ended up leaving his parent club to NOT sign for us!
If we get Rodon, it HAS to be on a permanent deal or at the very least, has to have a pre-agreed transfer value built in.
Although frustratingly (& typically) slow of us, every player we have brought in so far has been quality. If we can get Rodon and Leno in and another CB then we will be in good shape. As everyone else has said though, it’s all about speed now being so close to kick off.
Please hurry up and sign him and Diop before we play Liverpool we have wasted so much time with all the Penny pinching tactics ffs.
I watched most Fulham games last season and at most matches it was clear that if we got promoted the goal keeper and central defenders would need upgrading. No offence to Rodak, Tim Ream or Adarabioyo but they’re just not consistent or quick enough for the Prem league. We need Roden and Diop asap. Got to speed up our acquisitions to give the new lads the chance to understand their roles.
TK’s excuse for not signing Rodon will be FFP and who caused this problem? the one and only Tony Rafiq Khan and his poor transfer dealings.
Why do we keep messing around, just bloody sign these players. If Leicester sign Leno then its Fulhams own fault always dilly dallying, pain in the bloody arsenal, every year we get this not saying that we do a Nottingham forest but come on, get Leno, get Diop and a striker for christs sake, the seasons a week away
Having done a squad line Up/selection for 25 players for the PL we only get to that number with untried U23/U21s and counting 3 of 5 players that the club want to sell. Come on TK the squad is so light that it is fragile pull your finger out.
And there you go folks! Rodon is off to Rennes. Did we think it would be any different with TK. He is a total embarrassment-by the time he fired up his algorithm Rodon was already half the way to France!
Can anybody here play CB and are they available on the 6/8/22
Has confirmation been received that Rondon is going to France. Centre back should have been our number one priority and we needed two but have not got one. Who can we bring out of retirement!! This is a ridiculous situation that will cost the club dearly
Yep. He’s gone to Rennes. Obviously we’re a joke but imagine how much of a joke we’ll be if Tosin gets injured on Sunday. I’m not even sure who is 3rd choice at the moment? Looks like we’re going to have to go through the embarrassment of getting hammered in our first few games again before the last minute panic loans turn up before the window closes. The cracks with Ream were there on occasions in the Champonship but we’re covered up by our dominance of possession. The prem is going to be a huge issue. Marco must know we’re in real trouble if we don’t get 2 CBS, a striker, keeper and LB. This has reached comedy levels now. Preseason is basically done on Sunday.
A day late and a dollar short. That’s Fulham.
