Fulham head coach Marco Silva has urged the club’s hierarchy to ‘act faster’ to strengthen his squad in time for the start of the new Premier League season.
The Whites confirmed the capture of Manor Solomon on Monday with the Israeli international joining Andreas Pereira and Joao Palhinha as summer acquisitions. But Silva is eager to bring in further reinforcements with less than a fortnight to go before Fulham face Liverpool on the opening weekend of the season – with a new goalkeeper and at least two centre backs understood to be major priorities.
Silva told Portuguese newspaper Record:
“We need to act faster, the market has been difficult for us, but we have to act faster, even so the pre-season has been very positive, the players have been giving their all, which is always important, and it’s good to integrate the new players. “Its part of a process, we started later than some of our opponents, but it was a positive pre-season.
We have to have more reinforcements for when the Premier League starts, there is no other way, we still have a few players to sign and they are not that few. We know the market only closes on August 31st, but the Premier League starts on August 6th for us. We have to have more players to be at the level that the Premier League requires.”
We knew this weeks ago whether this has been bottling up inside Marco has many fans have said on this outlet it’s been 3 months since Fulham won the championship Marco has stipulated that he needs good proven reinforcements I am glad he has come out and said this to let us know what’s going on why have we not made CB or2 a priority let’s hope now we can see faster movement so our manager can integrate the new players very quickly or it will all go pear shaped again this time it won’t be the managers fault if it does
Interesting that Marco is going public to put pressure on the Khans. I think this is a good thing – that he’s confident enough to do this. Seems like it might be the only way to reach them. I think the Khans – with Silva’s input and pressure – are having a v. good transfer season. Would be better if Marco could just send an email but billionaires are not like you and me.
Sleepwalking towards The Championship again. I feel sorry for Marco Silva and all the players who won us promotion last season. The Khan’s may have plenty of money, but their lack of business acumen in the football world is staggering in its ineptitude. Such a shame for all those associated with this wonderful club
Soloman transfer does not look like best business practice. I am surprised as I gave Shad Khan my confidence to lead FFC with integrity and an honest desire to see us prosper. What was £7m in today,s market? Apparently, we would sooner have him for nothing for 12 months and potentially watch him be sold by Shaktar for 6, 7, 8 times that amount?
Ream, Tosin??? Why on earth did we not sign Williams. Marco waxed lyrically about him?
Championship, here we come!!
Sorry Shad but your son is not the man and maybe you have made the wrong choice in buying FFC.
Newspaper reports always advance ridiculous wealth of individuals and you have investested fortunes in FFC for which I cannot thank you enough. You are making our stadium one to be proud BUT, if the team and management are “at sea”, that sinking feeling is obvious!
Shad, you look the business but Tony has a way to go.
I can see Silva walking if decent signings are not completed this week and who can blame him. The need for two central defenders has been obvious for months, Why we did get Neco Williams seems to sum it all up
Agreed…history repeating itself and so forth…but if Leno and Diop land in the near future, a better team core will be established…Cornet too maybe.
The Solomon deal is outright dumb and shameful …no surprise though.
Our owners like most of them are odious.
Mee being a bee for free was a big miss.
Overall though, better than before which may mean we could finish 18th with luck and lose Silva after a few games…anyone for Ranieri?
Well said, Marco!
The fans of FFC are 100% with you … alas your paynaster(s) is/are not.
Is there a chant in there somewhere for the Hammy End on Sunday?
Keep up the good to work Marco!
If we get Leno, Diop and Mbabu then we’re making progress but it’s so slow. Hurry up for God’s sake. Give Marco some time to integrate them. What’s the hold up now on those 3???? Hurry up!!!!!
Whilst agreeing with all the comments I think the key problem repeated twice previously when Fulham were promoted is the affective loss of 10 or more points in august because we recruit late and don’t integrate new players until September. We need 36 or more points to stay up but try to do that from basically 33 games.
Trying to get a different outcome whilst doing the same thing ….definition of madness Mr Khan
We have all been saying all this for months and nothing ever changes the khan’s are only interested in free signings or anyone under 6 m they haven’t the brains to get players in early, well said Marco.
The Athletic reported Silva’s unhappiness THREE weeks ago. He was expecting TEN new players by the start of pre-season.
Now he has spoken out in the Portugese press.
I just hope he is also making his feelings clear DIRECTLY to the Khans!
Shades of Scott Parker who experienced the same two pre-seasons ago.
It’s all very well being patient but the failure to integrate new players during pre-season was clearly on everybody’s minds once promotion had been secured, as it was ONE of the key reasons for dropped points and relegation two seasons ago. Yet, for reasons still not properly explained, the Khans have not seemed to learn their lesson-yet again.
The Athletic reported yesterday that more than 100million in debt has been written off by S Khan converting to shares. I have no idea how FFP figures in this but is it possible that this conversion now means that funds can, belatedly, be freed up to ensure completion of transfer targets?
Ever the optimist, I have fingers and toes crossed.
Can anybody shed some light on the Mbabu situation?
He had his “first” medical in Portugal. “Second” medical in London on Monday -according to reports. Then nothing?
What’s going on?
It makes the Manor Solomon announcement and focus seem more and more like manipulation on the part of the powers that be.
I mean nothing has changed in his circumstances has it?
He still can’t play for us until August 1st.
We knew he had been in Portugal.
So why choose yesterday to suddenly announce that he is going to play for us this season? Interview with the player, breakdown by a journalist, photo op.
Just seems like a smokescreen to divert us from the fact that nothing else is actually happening re transfers-in an effort to deflect the flak and criticism being aimed at the Khans.
Just read that Ruben Vinagre is having a medical at Everton.
Given our interest and our dealings with Sporting recently over Palhinha plus the fact that it is a season long loan with an option to buy – the kind of deal that the Khans love, not sure how we let this one slip through the net.
Hopefully they press have got it wrong and he is coming to us.
He is definitely going somewhere as he has wished Sporting well in the coming season.
