An interesting one from Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian paper claims that Roy Hodgson is about to make a move for Roma striker Stefano Okaka Chuka and other sources suggest a loan move is in the offing.
Hodgson will have had plenty of time to assess Okaka’s ability as the Italian under-21 international played in both Fulham’s Europa League group games against Roma – scoring the winner in the 2-1 defeat in Rome. Speculation has mounted over the 20 year old’s future recently as Roma held talks with Luca Toni, who has said the Italian side are the only club he will leave Bayern Munich for.
Okaka’s agent has said that his client would be seeking a move away from Roma if Toni joined the club, but has been busy denying rumours of an imminent move to Portsmouth. The Tribal Football piece which I’ve linked to (I can’t find an English version of the original story anywhere on the net) suggests that Hodgson would see Okaka as cover for Andy Johnson, although the former England international made his return from injury at Stamford Bridge as a substitute on Monday.
