Marco Silva was bitterly disappointed with a below-par Fulham display as the league leaders were well beaten by Coventry City at Craven Cottage this afternoon.
The Fulham head coach blamed individual errors for giving his side a mountain to climb. A howler from goalkeeper Marek Rodak allowed Victor Gyokeres’ speculative shot to give the Sky Blues a 2-0 lead before a mistake from Tim Ream in stoppage time extinguished the hope that had been provided by Bobby Decordova-Reid’s goal with eight minutes left.
Silva told his post-match press conference:
“It’s about focus and concentration every time. They punished us for mistakes in the first goal, the second goal and the third goal. It’s these types of games that we need to control. We tried to rush too much. They had moments on the counter-attack. We had some moments ourselves with clear chances to score but it wasn’t our afternoon.
We had six or seven chances to score and if we scored them, it would have been a different result. We lost this game from individual mistakes. This afternoon, they were more confident than us, without reason. They were better than us, more confident than us and the game was decided from individual mistakes.”
Anyone who thinks we don’t need 6 or 7 players is wrong. We need them to survive next season. Just because it hasn’t worked in the past is not because we didn’t need new players. Keeper, Centre Back, Left Back, Midfielder, Attacking Midfielder and a pacy striker….minimum requirements.
I cannot understand why Seri was not used today. he has energy and can make defence splitting passes. our midfield went completely missing today. Coventry thoroughly deserved their win>it was a reality check today
It’s fine for Silva to blame the players, but he chose the team. We needed a leader on the field who could sense what was happening – exactly the same as against West Brom. We tried to force the play against their high press and fast moving midfield, and that left our backline miles away from our midfield (who were outplayed on the day). There was no recognition of this on or off the pitch, or if there was it was ignored probably believing that playing our way will resolve all issues. This was so easy to solve, a bit of calmness and a more thoughtful choice of starting line up would have helped. Seri had to play, as did Bryan. Both have the experience and know-how, and skill, to haver seen this over the line.
I thought our performance was not acceptable all across the field if I see Robinson in the team ahead of Bryan again I will need a personal answer from Silva as to why is this Man ( Robinson ) is even wearing a Fulham shirt totally should not be on the field mistake after mistake the cracks are beginning to show as it did against West Brom sure Coventry played a high line but we should have a plan to counter at that and not be as predictable as of late at times last night we were not even second best, I counted the Coventry players just to make sure there were eleven of them it looked like they had 14 or 15 players on the pitch let us now learn a Massive lesson from this as we should have done against West Brom these games key players ie Mitrovic and Wilson and Cavalho have started to go missing Bryan in for Robinson definite every game now and let’s have a plan B or COYW
Joe Bryan has to play
