Fulham are preparing to offer Chris Coleman double his current salary as the Premier League’s youngest-ever manager begins talks over a new contract tomorrow.

The Welshman’s standing has soared since he replaced Jean Tigana at the tail end of last season, securing Fulham’s top flight status despite a perilous position with five games to go. He has since surpassed all expectations by steering the Cottagers comfortably into the top half of the table and Fulham fear that other Premier League clubs could lure him away as he is only on a one-year deal.

Coleman is believed to be keen to remain in charge of the club he captained as they rose through the English footballing pyramid but is looking for assurances that he will be able to strengthen his squad in the summer.
