Neco Williams believes playing regular football with Fulham will serve him very well in Wales’ crunch World Cup play-off with Austria later this weekend.
The Liverpool full back told Sky Sports this afternoon that his successful loan spell at Craven Cottage – where he has starred as Marco Silva’s side have surged clear at the top of the Championship squad – stands him in good stead for international duty.
“Being at Liverpool, you’ve got the world’s best players in front of you and for me, I’ve got Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Andy Robertson in front of me. I don’t think I’ve ever gone into a Wales camp and played regular football. It’s always been in and out, trying to keep myself fit individually by training and doing different stuff in the gym.
I think this is the first camp I’ve come into playing regular football. I’ve got match fitness, match rhythm. I think that will 100% help me into the game coming up. It’s one massive game for the whole of Wales, not just for the players, and as long we bring everyone we’ve got into that game – and hopefully get the win – we’ll put the smiles on everyone around Wales.”
