Former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley is the frontrunner to succeed Roy Hodgson at Fulham, according to the Daily Mail.
Curbishley, who guided West Ham to safety from a perilous position in his last job, is at the top of Fulham’s shortlist to succeed Liverpool-bound Hodgson. Other names under consideration at Craven Cottage include the former England head coach Sven Goran Eriksson and Mark Hughes.
Eriksson is understood to be eager to return to top flight management having resigned as Ivory Coast boss earlier this summer whilst Hughes is holding out to see whether he will get an interview with Fulham after ending talks with Dubai side Al Ahli. The Mail suggests that the cost of hiring either has swayed the Whites towards Curbishley, who has not held a managerial role since leaving the Hammers in 2008.
Curbishley’s success on a shoestring budget with Charlton is said to appeal to a Fulham hierarchy who are now cutting their cloth accordingly after extravagant spending in the early years of Mohamed Al-Fayed’s ownership. The 52 year-old is understood to be very interested in taking over from Hodgson after his break from management.
