Jean Michael Seri has spoken of his joy at being part of Marco Silva’s all-conquering Fulham side – and says he wants to not only bring the Championship title to Craven Cottage but establish the club in the top flight again.

The Ivorian international appeared on his way out this summer before Silva succeeded Scott Parker and is relishing the opportunity to play for such an attack-minded outfit. He told Fulham’s official programme before the midweek win over Peterborough – an interview now published on the club’s website – of his delighted at playing a prominent part in the side’s successful season to date.

“This is a privilege for me. I’m really, really happy, and I thank God every day. I’m very happy now to be building something with the team. Last time we went up I wasn’t here, this time I want to be able to say I was there, I helped Fulham get promoted. I would be proud to do that.

Not only get promoted, but doing it with the right mentality. I want to look back and say, ‘That season we were champions, and we did it so well.’ That is the main thing for me. The last two times Fulham got promoted was by the play-offs, but this year we want it to be different. We want to dominate the league, we have a feeling that we want to be champions. Not just get promoted, we want to be champions.

That’s the main thing that’s changed in our mentality. If you say you want to be perfect, for sure you can be good. If you say that you want to be good, you might end up only being medium. That mentality to be perfect is something we have to put into every game.”

That sense of focus only sharpened when Seri revealed that his goals extend well beyond the end of this season.

“What’s more important, is Fulham has to stay in the Premier League. Stay two seasons to start with, and then build from that and be there every year. I think they deserve it. I will give my all. It will be my first ambition, to help Fulham stay in the Premier League. I was there when Fulham got relegated and it was tough, it was very, very painful. If we are promoted, I will be proud to defend – and give everything to – the club to stay in the league. This is my ambition, this is my objective.”
