Peterborough United have confirmed this afternoon that Matthew Etherington will take temporary charge of first-team affairs whilst the club seeks a permanent successor to Darren Ferguson, who resigned following the weekend defeat by Derby.
Etherington, who had led Posh’s youth sides before being promoted to assistant manager earlier this season, has brought in Simon Davies as his assistant which means that the Welsh winger – who started his career at London Road – will be due for a surprise return to Craven Cottage when Posh travel to Fulham tomorrow night.
Davies, who succeeded Etherington as under 23s coach at the Posh last year, made 167 appearances for the Whites between 2007 and 2013, scoring seventeen goals. He was part of Roy Hodgson’s side that reached the 2010 Europa League final – famously scoring in the semi-final against Hamburg and the final against Atletico Madrid – and became a firm favourite with the Fulham faithful.
