Graeme Souness is keen on taking over as the new manager of Fulham.
The Scot has been out of work since being sacked by Newcastle United last year but believes he has the qualities to keep the Whites in the Premier League and wants to return to a top flight managerial job. Souness successfully established Blackburn Rovers back in the big time after they won promotion from Division One behind Fulham in 2001 and won the League Cup the following year. He led Liverpool to the FA Cup in 1992, went a host of trophies with Rangers and did the Turkish double Galatasaray.
Fulham will look favourably upon Souness’ credentials but he is not considered to be a frontrunner to take over from Lawrie Sanchez. The former Tottenham manager Martin Jol is believed to be the favourite of the Fulham board and current midfielder Danny Murphy is understood to have advocated for his appointment. Former Fulham midfielder John Collins, who resigned as manager of Hibernian in an unrelated development just before Sanchez’s sacking, is also on the club’s shortlist although Croatia head coach Slaven Bilic has now ruled himself out of contention.
