John Collins has played down rumours linking him with the Scotland and Fulham jobs following his departure from Hibernian.
Hibs confirmed earlier on Thursday that Collins had resigned from his post with immediate effect, but the former midfielder insists his decision was not motivated by a desire to take charge elsewhere. He maintains he has not been approached by the Scottish Football Association about the possibility of succeeding Alex McLeish as manager of the national team.
Collins has also dismissed speculation suggesting he could replace Lawrie Sanchez at Craven Cottage, where he ended his playing career, and has no plans to consider his future until the New Year. “I can categorically state there have been no offers,” Collins told Sky Sports News. “Time will tell what the future holds but I’m not looking for any offers. It’s not right to talk about the Scotland job or other jobs – it would be disrespectful to Hibs. “I can clarify there’s been no contact from Fulham. They’ve got a manager, he’s got a tough job right now and I wish him all the best.”
The former Scotland midfielder reflected with pride on his time at Easter Road, after guiding Hibernian to their first piece of silverware in 16 years with victory in the CIS Cup.
He said: “I’m going to paint a good picture. It’s been a tough but exciting 14 months. “When I took over we were sitting eighth in the league and we’re now in the top half. “But I think now is the time for someone else to come in and hopefully the new manager will have some finances available. “There’s no doubt the team needs strengthening, and there’s players at the club that maybe deserve better offers than they’ve received.”
