Carlos Bocanegra was rostered for the USA game away against Costa Rica in San Jose. He was yellow carded in the 51st minute and then substituted in the 74th. The caution means that and Carlos will serve a suspension for picking up a second yellow card, in World Cup qualifying, on Wednesday when the U.S. of A. takes on Panama in Foxboro, Mass. The final result was 3-0 to Costa Rica but as USA have already qualified for the World Cup Finals they may not have been too bothered. Brian McBride had been given a rest so did not figure in the game.
Papa Bouba Diop played in Senegal’s 3-0 home win against Mali in Dakar. However Senegal finished second to Toga in African Group One and miss out on the Finals in Germany. Toga qualified for the first time in their history and along the way had beaten and drawn with Senegal.
Summer signing Ahmad Elrich played for Australia against Jamaica at Craven Cottage, the European base for Australia’s football team, and came on in the 79th minute. The Socceroos beat Jamaica 5-0 in preparation for their World Cup Qualification play-off.
Claus Jensen and Niclas Jensen were both called up for Denmark to face Greece in Copenhagen. The two Fulham first teamers played in a 1-0 victory over the European Champions Greece. To have a chance of qualifying Denmark need to win away at Kazakhstan on Wednesday with Turkey losing away at Albania.
Fulham captain Luis Boa Morte was selected for Portugal against Liechtenstein and was rested by his group topping squad which won 2-1.
