Fulham are ready to make a move for Peterborough striker Ivan Toney, who is desperate to ply his trade in the Premier League, according to Football Insider.
The 24 year-old striker was all set to sign for Brentford before their Wembley heartache in the Championship play-off final against the Whites last week. Toney has made it clear that he would like to return to the top flight if he is to leave London Road this summer – which puts newly-promoted Fulham and West Bromwich Albion in prime position to secure his signature.
Toney feels he has a point to prove at the highest level having been released by Newcastle United when Rafa Benitez concluded he wasn’t good enough for the Premier League. The powerful forward has scored 49 goals in two seasons at Peterborough, scoring 26 times before the League One campaign was curtailed early by the coronavirus pandemic.
The League One side are ready to conclude a deal with one of Toney’s many suitors but are believed to be holding out for a fee of around £10m. Brentford are reported to have offered £5m, whilst a Celtic bid of around £3m has been rejected. Posh’s director of football Barry Fry also revealed that the club have dismissed an approach from MLS outfit New York Red Bulls.
West Bromwich Albion, who were automatically promoted alongside Leeds on the final day of the Championship season, are also carefully monitoring Toney’s availability and are expected to submit an offer in the coming days. The Baggies are keen to supplement their forward line for their Premier League campaign and believe Toney will adapt successfully to top flight football.
