Bit of a left field rumour from tomorrow’s News of the Screws. They reckon Steve Bruce wouldn’t allowed to go back to Wigan and move for Maynor Figueroa so he might turn his attentions to Paul Konchesky instead.
The twice-capped England defender is still waiting for new talks to start over extending his current deal at Craven Cottage and appeared to fall out with a section of the fans during the midweek win against Blackburn.
The 28-year-old cost £3.25million when moving across London from West Ham in July, 2007.
Anyone know what the journalist’s on about? I didn’t spot it.
Should imagine Roy would look to tie Konchesky down to a new deal over the next month or so. He’s always spoken highly of him. And, with a long-standing knee problem, would he pass a stringent top flight medical anyway?
Didn’t spot anything like that at all. He didn’t have his best game though. Was thinking earlier that he was the weak link in our defence, but then really struggled to think of who we might be able to replace him with. Plus, he’s probably been the best LB we’ve had at the club for a long time.
Yeah, I said to one of my friends today that he has his iffy moments but is generally solid. Would be a shame to lose him – and a replacement wouldn’t be easy to come by.
Until Konch arrived LB was one of our weakest positions. I tend to agree with Dan has hos moments in terms of poor positioning and ropey distribution but to be fair a generally good performer for us.
