Fulham have lined up Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane as their preferred replacement for Louis Saha and are preparing a £7m offer for the Tottenham striker, according to the Sun.

Chris Coleman saw a £5m bid for West Ham forward Jermain Defoe rejected by the Hammers and has now placed Keane at the top of his wishlist, knowing that Spurs are seeking to ship out either the former Leeds forward or Freddie Kanoute before the end of the January transfer window.

Coleman said: “It is sad we have lost Saha because he is a quality player. I have money to spend but I am conscious of bringing in the right person. We know who we want.”

Fulham want to conclude a deal to bring Keane to Craven Cottage as quickly as possible as they seek to avoid a tailing off of their outstanding Premier League form following Saha’s departure. The Sun suggests that Celtic’s John Hartson, Rob Earnshaw of Cardiff and Preston’s Ricardo Fuller also figure on Coleman’s shortlist.
