An almost flawless half of football gave Fulham an unlikely lead in the Stadio Olimpico.
Diomansy Kamara, whose early gesticulations to the bench might have suggested that he would need to be replaced, capped a bright start from Roy Hodgson’s side by winning a penalty when he was clumsily brought down by Marco Andreolli. The Senegalese striker, who has a fine scoring record against Roma, stepped up to take the spot-kick himself and sent Doni the wrong way.
Fulham saw plenty of the ball as their Italian opponents looked lethargic in front of a sparse crowd. Kamara headed wide at the far post and the runs of American Clint Dempsey were posing plenty of problems for the Roma defence. Dempsey certainly could have had a couple of goals before the break.
Roma were largely frustrated in their forays forward but both Philippe Mexes and striker Stefano Okaka Chuka sent headers wide of Mark Schwarzer’s goal. The home side had a penalty appeal correctly turned down late in the first half when Daniele de Rossi’s shot struck John Pantsil on the arm.
WE GOT FUCKED ON THAT NEVLAND CALL. I’m beyond pissed right now. Maybe a yellow, but not worthy of a red. I call bullshit on that.
And then that Dutch clown sends off Konchesky. Neither made great challenges, but neither was worth a red either. Terrible ref ruined what was a highly entertaining match. A win in Basel now becomes necessary.
I can’t actually describe how angry I am…I hate Italians. The Referee was CRAP and they are just a bunch of divers. De Rossi might just be on my hate list lol
Ridiculous decisions. Especially the first one. Nevland had his legs bent and he barely touched the fucker who smashed McBride’s face during WC 2006. I’m totally pissed off. Twice so unlucky agaist the team which looked worse tha Fulham, and definitely worse organised.
Macu, Poland.
Easily the worst screw job I’ve ever seen. Fulham supporters learn how to lose with class and normally I can deal with a loss. But today, we were flat out robbed.
Those who follow me on twitter got to witness as I lost my mind.
less organized*
First time I’ve been online since the game Macu has it right on for me. How much dedication does it take to follow Fulham from Poland anyway?
Those were some ridiculous decisions. Nevland hardly touched de Rossi who went down as if he’d been shot and Konchesky’s red for a mistimed, frustrated tackle was beyond funny. I’m surprised nobody has questioned whether Andreolli(?) should have walked for bringing down Kamara. Wasn’t he the last man?
