Peterborough United have signed a non-league striker who recently came close to signing for Premier League Fulham.
Ben Wright penned a three-and-a-half year deal at London Road yesterday. The 20 year-old moves from Blue Square South club Hampton & Richmond for whom he’d scored 13 goals this season.
Posh are understood to have paid in excess of Hampton’s previous club record of £40,000 for a player who had been on the brink of a move to Craven Cottage. Fulham pulled out of the deal after Wright failed his medical having agreed a fee of £50,000.
Posh manager Darren Ferguson said: “This signing follows the criteria that we have at the football club about bringing in young, hungry players. He is one that has been on the radar for a little while. We have watched him closely and believe he will bring something different.
