Fulham are ready to release Cyrus Christie on a free transfer in order to help the Republic of Ireland international find a route out of Craven Cottage before the transfer deadline, according to the Athletic’s Peter Rutzler.
Marco Silva has told the right back that he is not in his long-term plans – even following Kenny Tete’s hamstring injury last week that appears to be more severe than first thought. Christie spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest but a proposed permanent return to the City Ground fell through last weekend after he failed to agree personal terms.
Burnley, Stoke City and Bologna are believed to be interested in striking a deal for the former Middlesbrough and Derby defender, who has only featured for Fulham’s under 23 side this season. Christie, who twice helped Fulham win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, has made 66 appearances for the Whites since moving to London three years ago.
We’ve clearly been drastically overpaying him.
I don’t get this one at all. We have just lost Tete, our 1st choice right back for a what seems a long time, it would seem obvious that Christie as a specialist right back would get the chance to impress at that position. Whenever he played in season we got promoted, he played well and seems a good fit at championship level.
Marco, please give him a chance much the same way as you have done for Seri, i think this is a season for surprises and I think Cyrus may well be another one of them!!
It does seem odd to let him go but personalities in footy as we all know don’t always fit. Hope he finds a team that can afford him.
With the market very tight for cash at our level and players like frank to offload,it makes the christie saga laughable,Tony overpaid for him from the start, still tried to get money for him by extending another year, now giving him a free. When he tries to sell knocks or cav he will be in for a bigger shock.
Agree with everyone. Seems odd this one. Perhaps Silva and him don’t get on. Silva has obviously made his mind up. Oh well. Denis to the rescue.
