Fulham target Andrew Surman has conceded that he may have to leave Southampton in the January transfer window to help the south coast club raise funds.
Surman, who is also being tracked by our opponents on Saturday, Stoke City, is highly rated at St. Mary’s but with Southampton in deep financial trouble the club may look to cash in on one of their highly prized assets.
The England Under 21 midfielder has started all of Southampton’s 21 league games this season but has admitted that, with all the talk of a big money move, he would love to play in the top flight.
He told the Daily Mail: “I’d like to see the group stay together but the financial situation might not let that happen. I’d be delighted to play in the Premier League with Southampton but, if it means one day moving on, then that’s what I’ll have to do.”
Surman’s manager Jan Poortvliet is quoted by The Sun as saying: “We’d like to keep all our players in January but it’s not down to me.”
Fulham have also been linked to £2m rated Saints striker Adam Lallana, but there is reportedly a long list of clubs interested in his services, headed by Tottenham.

I certainly do. I remember the bidding war between us and Sunderland for us services. Mind you, I reckon the boy gets a lot of undeserved stick. He seems a lot more comfortable in the holding role this season and still some cretins boo him.
I’ve seen Surman a few times. He looks a decent player but I’m not sure whether a midfielder would be top of the list at the moment.
