Could this be another one that got away?
Marko Pantelic, who has scored 46 goals in the last four seasons for Hertha Berlin, looks set to sign a one-year deal with Ajax today. As a free agent with a prolific record in an improving league, he surely must have come across Roy’s radar.
The Daily Mail says that Fulham and a number of other clubs had made contact with Pantelic’s agent. Surely we could have offered him the opportunity of coming to England, playing European football and gone one better than Ajax by putting a two-year contract on the table?
Of course, it could just be paper talk but I’d have been really excited if Pantelic had come to the Cottage.
