Damien Duff admits that he hasn’t realised his full potential for Ireland – and is determined to put that right.
Fulham’s new winger has seen injuries disrupt his international career of late and his recent performances have failed to the heights of his brilliant displays at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea. Duff is keen to help Ireland reach next year’s finals in South Africa and says he would like to play in the 2014 World Cup as well.
He was searingly honest when asked if he had fulfilled his promise in an Ireland shirt.
No. But I still think I’m going to be around for a bit. I love playing for Ireland and so long as my body holds out I like to think I’ll come over and meet up, yeah.
I’ll be 35 in four years’ time when the competition comes around [the 2014 World Cup in Brazil] so, never say never. I’m still planning on playing when I’m 35 so hopefully I will, yes
