Wigan are thought to be closing in on the signing of Fulham midfielder Papa Bouba Diop.

Latics boss Paul Jewell is desperate to bolster his squad in this month’s transfer window as he looks to arrest their slump in form.

Jewell admitted he had agreed a deal with a club for a mystery player and is hoping to know if his swoop will be successful as early as Monday.

“We have made an offer for a player that has been accepted by his club,” said Jewell.

“We are now waiting for that player to say yes or no. Hopefully that will be as early as tomorrow.”

Jewell has been frustrated in the transfer market this month, revealing a number of prospective deals have fallen by the wayside.

“If there is a team that has tried to get more players, made more phone calls, had more meetings and been let down more than we have, then I would like to know who they are,” said Jewell.

“The last three weeks have been unbelievable because we have got close to getting players in on so many occasions, only for them to fall through for differing reasons.”

Fulham boss Chris Coleman hinted last week he could be willing to let Diop leave and it appears the Senegal ace could be on his way to the JJB Stadium.
