Claus Jensen insists he is focused on regaining his place in the Fulham team as he plays for his future at Craven Cottage.
The Danish international scored on his first league appearance of the season as Chris Coleman’s side beat London rivals Charlton 2-1 on Monday.
Cottagers boss Coleman has already told the midfielder he must prove his worth in the final year of his contract as a string of injuries have limited his impact since joining from The Addicks in 2004.
Whilst Jensen has embarked on his quest to earn a new deal in style, the 29-year-old says his primary objective is to become a regular in Coleman’s first XI.
“I’ve been a couple of years on the sidelines with some injuries which dragged on a bit,” said Jensen in The Sun.
“It’s nobody’s fault – it’s just how it is sometimes.
“And when you’ve had a couple of years like that people start talking.
“I’m 29-years-old and I feel like I’ve got many years left in my career.
“For me, it’s more about proving to myself that I’m feeling good.
“At the moment, I just want to get back into the team.”
Coleman also underlined that Jensen still has some way to go before he proves himself worthy of an extended contract, but the Welsh boss admitted he was pleased with the player’s intervention from the bench.
“It was a good start for Claus but that’s what it was – a start,” said Coleman.
“Hopefully we can now get a run of games from him.”
