Fulham have this evening completed the signing of New Zealand midfielder Simon Elliott on a free transfer from Columbus Crew.
The All Whites international is still awaiting international clearance for his move to Craven Cottage after Fulham erroneously sent the paperwork to the New Zealand Soccer Federation rather than US Soccer, who hold the registrations of all players participating in Major League Soccer.
Elliott, 31, who has been training with the Whites for the past month following a successful trial, could make his Fulham debut in Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie against Leyton Orient. Fulham manager, Chris Coleman, who has tracked the midfielder since he impressed when playing against the Cottagers in a pre-season friendly for the Crew, said:
“He is a solid midfield player and is experienced. He’ll add strength and depth to the squad.”
