Mark Hughes has been given the green light for a £750,000 bid to bring Fulham striker Andy Cole back to Blackburn.

Rovers boss Hughes put the Fulham hitman top of his wanted list after selling Jon Stead to Sunderland for £1.8million.

And he is confident of tempting Fulham to cash in on Cole, 33.

Blackburn took a massive £8m loss on Cole when they let him go on a free last summer following a series of bust-ups with former boss Graeme Souness.

But Hughes, who partnered Cole up front for Manchester United, wants him back to play alongside Paul Dickov next season.
