Sunderland are ready to sell American midfielder Claudio Reyna to Fulham — clearing the way for Sean Davis to quit Craven Cottage.

The Whites believe that a £2m bid will land them the USA captain and Sunderland confirmed that are currently holding talks with the Cottagers over a proposed deal. Reyna, who has been sidelined for ten months after knee surgery, was due to return to action in Sunderland’s League Cup clash at Mansfield this evening but Mick McCarthy is prepared to leave him out if the two clubs agree a fee before then.

Chris Coleman has identified Reyna as the man he wants to replace Sean Davis in the Fulham midfield. That would allow the Fulham academy product to finally leave after he submitted a transfer request earlier this month having become unsettled in west London. Middlesbrough are believed to be leading the race for the 23 year-old with a £5m offer, but Everton – who have already had two bids turned down earlier this summer – are known to still be interested as well.
