Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of Fulham forward Matt Smith for a fee believed to be in the region of £500,000.
The tall striker has struggled for first-team opportunities at Craven Cottage since signing from Leeds in the summer of 2014. Smith scored nine goals in 53 appearances for the Whites, although only 21 of those were starts. He had a spell on loan with Bristol City in 2015, scoring thirteen times in twenty appears, and with Chris Martin firmly established as Slavisa Jokanovic’s first choice striker has decided to make the short switch across west London.
The 27 year-old paid an emotional tribute to the Fulham fans on Twitter tonight: “From the bottom of my heart, a massive thank you to everyone associated with Fulham Football Club, not least you fans, for all your support for what’s been an incredibly enjoyable period of my career. I’ll always be especially proud to say that I’ve pulled on the Fulham shirt and wheeled away to celebrate goals in front of the Cottage. It’s a special place. I’ve made some amazing friendships at the club, as well as behind the scenes, so wishing you and everyone else at FFC nothing but the best for the future.”
