It seems like you fall into one of two camps on the possible signing of Mark Viduka. The first school of thought is that he’d be a good signing. International player, with motivation to perform since Australia have already qualified for the World Cup and a man whose mere presence will push Bobby Zamora that much harder. Plus he’s got a terrific Premier League goalscoring record and has been a real thorn in Fulham’s side on countless ocassions.
Others aren’t so convinced. They see him as a lumbering, injury-prone forward, a shadow of the man who once frightened Premier League defenders. The doosmday scenario is that Viduka’s keen to pick up one last pay cheque, he won’t be close to the Australian squad for South Africa (he wasn’t picked for any of the qualification campaign) and could be another Jari Litmanen.
As you could gather from my posts earlier in the day, I’d be in the first camp. Viduka has the potential to be great value. And that’s where Dan from With A Plum comes in. His excellent site has lay dormant for a while – but this piece is worth a read.
Viduka has been an unpopular signing wherever he has gone. And all bar Newcastle proved less than successful – arguably injury riven.
Reading between the lines, it looks like he’s heading back to Australia.
