Brazilian defender Marlon will travel to London today to have a medical ahead of his proposed move to Fulham after the Whites agreed a fee with Sassuolo, according to reports from Italy.
The deal is thought to be worth around £13.75m and the centre half will finalise his personal terms with Fulham when he arrives in England later today, although the Premier League new boys are confident that this will not prove problematic. Barcelona have waived their right to re-sign their former player having held a buy-back option as part of the transfer that took Marlon to Italy in 2018.
The 23 year-old made 23 appearances as Sassuolo finished eighth in Serie A last season, keeping five clean sheets. A ball-playing centre back, Marlon is seen as suiting Scott Parker’s preferred style and system, although Fulham are believed to be targeting at least one more centre half as well as further reinforcements in forward areas.
Interesting that we have been linked with two central defenders that have both come through Barcelona in recent years… Do we know if Marlon & Todibo had played together at Barcelona in the B or C teams and have some sort of existing rapport we aren’t aware of? That sort of thing would be important to both players being able to bed into the club (& the league!) & work well together and could explain why the club wants to bring both in.
Superb question Shaun! Gut feel is that the rumours around Marlon are true and journalists have made a link to Tobido and got the rumours from there.
Personally think Kongolo would be a better signing than Tobido but all appear to have quality.
Unfortunately, Shaun, they didn’t overlap in playing time at Barcelona. Tobido didn’t join Barcelona until the end of January 2019, by which time Marlon was already playing for Sassuolo. For what it is worth, the Spanish media say that Tobido is not keen on signing for Fulham and would rather return to France. Rennes are putting in a loan offer today, according to the French press.
Todibo wont be joining us, he has other options he likes like CL team in France.
If you looking for links. Marlon played in 2017 with Seri and La Marchard for one season. for Nice. Good or bad? you decide.
Marlon is a quality player and strong for me a very good signing
Read good and bad about will have to wait and see. Good CB hard to come by these days everybody looking for one, fingers crossed, best of luck Marlon
At least it is a centre back. He cannot be any worse than we currently have in that position at the club. so many other rumours floating about it difficult to know what to believe. Whoever we buy the club wants to ensure the players are fully fit and ready to play. We don’t want another Mawson issue who was carrying a known injury when he signed for us.
This guy looks good, having all the attributes of a skilful, ball-playing CB that Parker wants in addition to being, young, relatively cheap and keen on joining the club and playing in the PL. The links with Seri, who may even feature in the PL this season, after appearing to be a lost cause, and Le Marchand, are an added bonus.
Looks good . Interesting Marlon played with Seri and Le Marchard at Nice . Seri is “back in town” and has potential … Le Marchard I worry about and wonder why still here. Any one know defensive record of Nice in 2017 ?
As long as Ream & Hector don’t pair up again, it’s worth the gamble. Otherwise, down by Xmas. And KEEP CAIRNEY OFF THE PITCH then we still have a chance. The midfield are SO MUCH quicker without him,
At long last we are addressing the CB situation and hopefully another striker to help Mitro out it’s not before time if we want to remain in the premiership.coyw.
Not sure what our post-EU situation is with work permits. Can’t really see why Marlon would be allowed to work here unless it is solely based on what we are prepared to pay him !!

As long as it’s not Marlon Dingle from Emmerdale, it’s good news
If we are crying out for a CB why did we let Mawson go out on loan? Was he given a chance? I don’t believe he was. So we now wait to see if Marlon and any other rumoured signing are going to save us from the dreaded drop. Here’s hoping.
Great news, the signing of a centre back with quality. Now hopefully back it up with a forward aith quality to help Mitro. At last some progression!
