Joe Bryan has agreed terms with Fulham over a new ‘long-term contract’ to keep him at Craven Cottage, according to a report in the Athletic this morning.
The former Bristol City left-back, who memorably scored twice in Fulham’s extra-time play-off final victory over Brentford at Wembley last month, had been heavily linked with a move away throughout the summer. A number of Premier League sides were rumoured to be interested in signing the 26 year-old, including Leeds United, West Brom, Leicester City and Newcastle United. They believed they might be able to tempt Fulham into selling their first-choice left back following Antonee Robinson’s move from Wigan Athletic, but Scott Parker made it clear that he wanted to keep Bryan at the club.
Bryan, who has made 81 appearances for the Whites since signing from Bristol City for around £6m in August 2018, started Fulham’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Saturday and was keen to commit his future to the Cottagers. The attacking full-back had two years to run on his previous deal and this move is consistent with Fulham’s desire to reward their promotion heroes for their efforts in returning to the top flight at the first time of asking.
Glad Bryan is staying. Why is Scott still playing Odoi, Ream and Kebano. Clearly not good enough for Premier league.
Ream may struggle at Premiership level but he played much better than Hector against Arsenal. Kebano has become far more effective than Cav, Knockaert and AK47 since starting regularly and the more he plays at the higher level he may continue to improve further. If not that will be the time to take a view his role at the club. Odoi is a 110% player who will give his all in whatever position you play him and is an extremely valuable sqad member. What the defence needs is an experienced leader who can organise the defence and help raise their confidence and abilities.
I would agree that Hector did not have his best game on Saturday but he is far better then defender than Ream. Odoi wont be playing when Tete is up to speed but we need to replace Ream. Why are we not looking to get Smalling back at the cottage as he would be the experienced centre back that we need to play with Hec.
Good News both Bryan ( as an Attacking Wing Back – possibly use Robinson when we need Defending Left Back lets see ) And Odoi ( indeed gives 110% and fits in anywhere in back 4 when needed. ) . Hector and Ream not quite Hangeland and Hughes , but Hector has only played one game so far and against Arsenal – we cant judge him on that only and Ream 2 years back was handicapped by back problems … but in any case everyone agrees need a solid CD . Remember that on return to Premiership last time opening home game was Palace and we lost 2-0 looked much worse then ! . COYW
Totally agree can’t judge Hector and Ream on one performance BUT every good team is built around a solid defence we desperately need 2 proven CBs worrying though when are we going to hear we are looking at CBs with not long left in this window like Anguissa though could end up being a bit of a surprise in CM
I believe Anguissa could do well in CM. Id leave Robinson at LB and give Bryan a go to the left of Mitro. Crazy, but might be something to it.
